The Couches of NYC: The Biggers

Monday, June 06, 2011

The next two nights in NYC were spent at Kevin's parent's home in Wayne, New Jersey. Kevin sold me with the big backyard, my own room aka his childhood room, baby pictures galore, car ride to the fair, and of course & most importantly, I absolutely love his parents. I definitely got all that & more.
Kevin's parents & Kevin united for the first time. He was the only baby on the plane who was laughing and smiling :)
Kevin & his cousin.
My dinner after the craft fair on a plate designed by a young Kevin.
His plush duck collection at the foot of his bed.
Teehee!!
PORK ROLL! I finally had it. It tastes so good for you/so bad for you.
daaaaaaaaaaaaaawww...
MONSTERRRRR truck!

All in all, I had a lovely time with his parents. They drove me around the town and showed me his schools, the soccer fields where Kevin coached & played, the restaurant where Kevin ate after he bought his first car, and the lake near their house. The sentimentality, love, calm and sightseeing perfectly complimented the anxiety and worry of a craft fair. I couldn't have asked for a better (re)treat.

Oh brother what a Brookly Flea!!

What a wonderful day!!
got up early at the Biggers home and packed up the inventory
drove into the city from new jersey with kevin's wonderfully helpful parents and set up the booth with their & bina's help. hey sissy face!!
My sister took a majority of the pictures. these are just the ones off my phone. Overall it was a wonderful day. I had many surprise appearances from friends... Special shout to Angela, David, Brian & Candice, Zach, Matthew for the good intentions, Loretta & Gayathri for the love. & my sissy. It was just so lovely seeing my old new york friends. it almost felt like a fair in LA with all the folks gathered in the back laughing and telling stories. It felt like New York was home again. I duno.. It & everyone was just so nice. I also met a lot of foreigners and visitors so that was really exciting.

I emailed BK Flea about doing next Saturday's fair too but haven't heard back yet. I'm a little low on inventory but dang, it was just too good to not do again :)

Manolo suggested we collaborate on a comic and collaborate we did! His bears + my elephantThe finished product! All done in a few hours of passing back & forth :)

Afterwards I rushed to Michael's to get a few supplies for a sign: paint, brush and I swiped a cardboard box from the store. I was about to buy a piece of foamcore but then I noticed the lovely box the foamcore was supposed to be sitting in so I took the empty one. They would have thrown it out anyway...
I rushed to the park & raced the sun!
30 mins later.
another 30 mins later :) Now you all can find me at Brooklyn Flea. Look for the happy lady!

The Couches of NYC: Manolo

Thursday, June 02, 2011

Usually my time in NYC is gobbled up before I even know it (like Bruce with his food lever teehee), so to make sure I saw certain people I requested a couple days on their couch. I also just in general need places to sleep but besides that, it's the best kind of hanging out doesn't require going out & spending money :). I'm staying with a variety of people from artist, Kevin's parents to financial analyst guy, in different parts of New York (& New Jersey!) from Bushwick, LES to gorgeous condo in Chelsea. So I thought I'd document their living quarters!

Here's day 1 & 2 at Manolo's
Whether visible or not, his art all over the walls. Even in the bathroom!
I thought it said poggi which means 'handsome' in tagalog (he's filipino too!) but it actually says 'Russian' in russian, with Russian characters. Good color scheme on this wall :)

NYC: Take off & Landings

7am flight. shoot me.

New art installation in Madison Sq. park. Eerie giant baby head. It's actually Echo the Greek god but I just think of the baby in Toy Story 3.

Airplane Mode, Take 2

Packed & ready. It all fits! But it's SUPER HEAVY! Ugh, so many stairs in NYC... well, at least I'll have sweet biceps when I'm done with NYC!

Amidst the preparation and such, I churned out a new card:
now on etsy :)

Oh I'm beyond anxious. I've never flown a plane with all my craft fair stuff before. So interesting. Here's to something new! & to New York! I already have my heart set on SHAKE SHACK as my first meal. Just keeping with tradition :)
