My Sunday Fun Day in Santa Cruz

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Kevin drove up for the weekend and we had quite an adventure in Oakland on Saturday and in Santa Cruz on Sunday. Sunday's more interesting because it involves BIKES!
We parked the car in downtown and biked to Natural Bridges. It's so prettyyy.

We then biked to the Beach Boardwalk & rode the Giant Dipper. It's as good as my 13-year-old self remembers it. While waiting in line, I learned some fun facts: the roller coaster had a cameo in Dangerous Minds, and more impressively, it opened in 1924. Hot diggity.

Kevin used his keen google search skills and found us lunch at Bonny Doon Vineyard. They have a Roswell Hour aka Happy Hour from 3-6pm, wine by the glass 50% off. We wine tasted & dined on some pretty spectacular dishes. This one made me chuckle: 38 North Confit Duck Leg Cigar with Leek Ash. Duck was a little dry but all the flavors complimented each other rather beautifully.

We ended the day as every day in Santa Cruz ends... with a double scoop at Penny Ice Creamery. We opted for bitter caramel & tahitian vanilla in their house made waffle cone, and took home a pint of peach sorbet for my mama.

Happy Throwback Friday!

Friday, June 22, 2012

Nothing like early morning vectoring on a Friday! And to celebrate tomorrow's concert of a lifetime (alkdjfalksdfjliesr!!!!ladjf), have a listen :)

It would be pretty amazing if Raphael Saadiq & the crew wore the same throwback outfits on the SAME THROWBACK STAGE. Whaaaaaaaat.

btw, hand gestures like whoa in this video!

Just thought I'd share what I submit for customer approval when it comes to plush letters.

San Pedro Square Market THIS SUNDAY

Friday, June 15, 2012

I'll be at space #20 in full force (stamps, shirts, new prints, Clink buttons!!), and sporting some blue & orange (GO THUNDER!!!). I really love splitting my summer fair vending time between smaller, intimate community fairs and bigger citywide events like Renegade Craft Fair. Don't know why but I do!

Jurassic Fort in progress

Thursday, June 14, 2012

To continue with my series of nerdy/geeky/fan forts... JURASSIC PARK!

The Magical Day at WonderGround Gallery

Saturday was the big day, and I was so nervous about the whole thing. I seriously didn't know what to expect. Eeeeee! But it was fabulous, and such an honor to be a part of such a small, talented pool of artists. So, without further ado... THE PICTURES!

It's ONE DAY AWAY. AHHHHH.

I always like seeing artist's process sketches because it's like a little peek into their innerworkings. Here's mine and it doubles as a promo heyyyy. PS: I'm FREAKING OUT (in a good way!). See you there! :)

Campfire-style Dinner in Berkeley

Thursday, June 07, 2012

I met Sam when vending at the Santa Cruz farmer's market last autumn. He was one of the first people I met and the friendliest guy ever! What made it even better was he worked for Scream Sorbet, which meant trading for ice cream & pints at the end of the day. YUM! He has since resigned his ice cream scooper, but works in a dairy farm making yogurt & milk. We've kept in touch since I stopped vending in Santa Cruz and he invited me to his Berkeley co-op for a campfire dinner.
Almost of all of the food served at dinner was attained by trading at farmer's markets. Dang, now that's a way to live!
The Peanut Vanilla was Sam's idea. It's also my favorite & their top seller. BOOM.

Sam is a generous host. He gave me some snacks to take home (fresh milk, olive oil bread baked that morning, and oranges that instead of making their way to Berkeley Bowl found their way into my tote bag). The milk is INCREDIBLE.

WRECK-IT-RALPH Trailer!!

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

I am beyond EXCITED for this movie. When I visited Disney Animation with Laura and Keiko a few months ago, I saw pre-production work galore (as well as a small arcade & actual Wreck-It-Ralph arcade game), so it's really great seeing a trailer now. EEEEEE!!! It's about an 8-bit video game villain who tries to be a good guy. Disney was able to get the rights to a bunch of games so you'll see some familiar faces from Super Mario Bros. Street Fighter and Pac-Man. Yeeeeeee!
