Bicycling through Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Monday, April 08, 2013

My rented ride. Biked about 40-50 km. I was very sweaty in the 90+ degree heat.
I sat down to paint this tree (because how could you not?!?) and by the end, I had quite an audience and some fellow painters with me.
Showing her how to use the watercolors.
The crowd gathered to watch sunset at one of the wats was more interesting than the actual sunset, IMO.
I was continually astounded by how open and well-preserved the temples were. I felt like a kid wandering through corridors, windows, and doors, not sure where exactly they would lead me, or climbing up steep stone steps for a stunning view. My favorites were the trees perhaps as old as the temples themselves essentially crushing the wat walls to grow.

Besides Angkor Wat, Siem Reap is a lovely city. The people are really kind, and the tuktuk drivers are very creative with their solicitations. Best of all, the food is delicious and cheap. I can't wait to go back!

Oh my stars, this:

NYC Solo Adventures #1

Thursday, May 27, 2010

My family departed yesterday so I'm now off-duty as a host. Phew! And this is how I spent my freedom:

Fort Greene Park
I think there would have been more sketching but the 90 degree weather made me sleepy.
Yay for trees & my tedtalk pencil.
This morning I met with this fella:
He gave me a preview to his freshly rendered fancy animation trailer for the Green Bus Tour. We also discussed muppets, and laughed as I accidentally attacked someone with my bagel. Oops.
BK Spacecraft
There was a baby drum circle. Kind of surreal & amazing at the same time. I never thought to play a drum like that. Innovative kid!
Lady & the Tramp dog forreal!! :D

Charming Wall on West 4th. Gonna paint me a 6x6 canvas! Woo! Well, more like 3... Stay tuned for progress reports!

The Small, Confident Traveler

I apologize for the terrible quality that is apple's photo booth. I should really invest in a camera now that I don't have my aunt's anymore.

Baltimore: Sesame Street by Day, The Wire by Night

Attended Megapolis, the audio arts festival... so much fun drawing all the geeks in their radio/listening/musical glory.
During an audio-dead puppies-exquisite corpse workshop.
Band rockin' out hardcore. METAL!! YEAAAH!
Journey back from Baltimore to NYC... feeling rejuvenated & renewed!
Best sight ever... so, I see a gent on the subway mumbling to himself. He's rehearsing something. He then pulls out an envelope which contains a box which holds... an engagement ring! He was practicing his proposal! Gahhhhhhhhh :) So I sketched him. Best of luck to him.

THE WIRE!

Saturday, May 15, 2010

Here in Baltimore for friends, The Wire & Megapolis: the audio festival.
A view from Sandeep's backyard & the audio geeks in the bar.
My quick 1-min sketch of these lovely musical gents:
They were singing, "All You Need is Love." I died a little.

Very Long Plane Ride...

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

means lots of drawings of agitated, restless genevieve & of a much anticipated b&g reunion

btw, I've been slow on posting because I'm still adjusting to being back. Jet lag, change, home, seeing old friends, getting lost in nyc like whoa.

Happy Birthday Mummy!

More Raphael Saadiq

Friday, April 30, 2010

I'm getting really into drawing musicians now. I basically watched a bunch of his videos & performances on youtube to get a feel for how he moves, then hit the pause button at random points on "Love That Girl" (when I was particularly feelin' the groovin' & movin') to draw. There's just a sway about him that is sooooo engaging and contagious. His body twists & turns with the notes.... ahhh such good drawing material :) Can my future husband also sing this song to me at the wedding? Thaaaaaaankssss.

btw, the girl toward the end when she scrunches her face... yeah I'd totally do that, haha.

Thom Yorke

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Oh how this man can waaaaaail. I'd never seen him in a hoodie, so I was curious. I didn't mean to make him look so emo though! Perhaps he just remembered he's on the New Moon soundtrack, teehee.

I went shopping today

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

on my own & couldn't decide between two dresses, so I drew sketches for an objective pov. Hahaha, I'm ridiculous. I still haven't decided--they're on hold :)

Raphael Saadiq

Monday, April 26, 2010

I'm going to start a drawing series of musical artist(s) I'm listening to. Soooo... today I present you with the soulful, always sharply dressed, Oakland native: Mr. Raphael Saadiq. I've been listening to a lot of Tony! Toni! Tone! and interviews/podcasts with Raphael Saadiq... just captures the groove I'm in. I learned from one of the interviews that he bought his first acoustic guitar at the age of 5 from the SAN JOSE flea market.... yeaaaah! The same one I frequented as a kid to buy pogs! Hahaha. Pretty sweet. I have such a crush on him.
